EVESHAM’S newly elected MP Nigel Huddleston thanked Sir Peter Luff for the work he did in the Vale in his maiden speech in Parliament.

Mr Huddleston used his first speech in the House of Commons to praise his predecessor for the significant improvements to local infrastructure in Mid Worcestershire, and hard work to preserve and restore local heritage assets such as the Regal Cinema.

Mr Huddleston also used his speech to highlight how important the technology and travel and tourism sectors are to the British economy, with Evesham contributing towards its growth.

“Giving my maiden speech was a nerve racking but exciting experience,” Mr Huddleston said.

“As I have spent the past several years working for one of the leading technology companies in the world, it will be no surprise that I wish to be an advocate for technology and the digital sector.

“The UK’s digital economy is vital and I know that this Government is committed to making sure it continues to be so.

“The other sector I wish to champion is travel and tourism which is one of the fastest growing sectors of the British economy, contributing more than £127 billion and employs more than three million UK people, including many in my constituency.

“It is vital that we continue to support business and job creation, thereby supporting workers and their families. That is what I am here to do.

“Now my maiden speech is over, I can get on and start working for the people of Mid Worcestershire. I look forward to what’s ahead,” he added.
