AN EVESHAM man has been jailed for two years for stealing a pensioner’s handbag containing £350 from the basket of her mobility scooter.

Anthony David Reeve, of Craven Court, appeared before Hereford Crown Court on Friday (December 23) to be given the sentence.

Reeve was found guilty of theft, breaching a suspended sentence order and failure to provide a sample class A drug test at an earlier hearing at Redditch Magistrates Court.

Shortly after 9.30am on Thursday, August 18 the victim, an 86-year-old woman, was using her mobility scooter on Albert Road when Reeves approached her.

The 40-year-old stole her handbag, containing approximately £350 in cash, from the basket of the scooter.

Speaking after the sentencing Det Cons Phil Wood said: “We hope this result reassures the local community that we do everything within our power to ensure that criminals who target vulnerable and elderly people are put before the courts.”
