Evesham gas upgrade finishes on time

WALES and West Utilities has finished its work to upgrade nearly 1,000 metres of gas pipes in the Avon Street area of Evesham, on time.

The project started in October last year and was vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area – helping to keep people warm for decades to come.

The gas distribution network worked losely with Worcestershire County Council to plan the project.

Further work will continue in Evesham as it works to invest more than £5million over the next two years to upgrade gas pipes across Worcestershire.

The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see 17 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area.

Ryan Barkway who managed this project, said: “We were delighted to have finished these essential works on time.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area.

“This work was necessary to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”

Wales and West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England.

It transports gas through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.

If gas is smelt or a member of the public suspects carbon monoxide, they should call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately.
