AN ENTHUSIASTIC group of supporters gathered at the top of Bridge Street in Evesham to take part in the joint ‘We Own It/Keep Our NHS Public (KONP)’ action to celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of the National Health Service on July 5th 1948.
More than ninety individuals of all ages, mostly local constituents, were happy to sign birthday cards for the commemoration which will be forwarded to Nigel Huddleston’s surgery to show local support for a widely valued public service.
Dr Sylvia Chandler, a member of KONP, said: “Despite its many problems people continue to value immensely a universal service which is publicly funded and owned, free at the point of need and accountable to the public”.
“No private sector provides A&E services or trains staff”.
The organisers would like to thank all those local constituents who turned out to support the activity.
