TRIBUTES have been paid to an Evesham county councillor and community champion who died suddenly three days after Christmas.

Coun Peter Griffiths passed away on Thursday (December 28). He was elected in May 2021 to represent residents in Evesham North West for the Conservative Party

He served on several committees including Audit and Governance Committee and Health Overview and Scrutiny.

County Council Leader Coun Simon Geraghty said:

“We all mourn the very sad passing of our friend and colleague Peter Griffiths, who died unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon.

“Not only was Peter a very active member of Worcestershire County Council but was also a dedicated and committed champion for Evesham.

“I know Peter’s family will be in all our thoughts at this very difficult time and I offer my sincere condolences.”

Often described by colleagues as a councillor ‘who gets the job done’, Coun Griffiths championed Evesham’s town centre and played his part in funding for three defibrillators.

In 2021, he adapted to the challenges posed post pandemic by holding Facebook Live question and answer sessions with prospective voters ahead of the County Council elections.

He was also a member of Evesham Town Council, joining in October last year representing the Little Hampton Ward.

Fellow ward councllor and Wychavon District Council chairman Coun Robert Raphael said:

“Peter was an excellent town and county councillor, world-class ambassador for Evesham and first rate friend.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with family at this time. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.”

A spokesperson for Evesham Town Council said:

“We were extremely sorry to hear of the death of our councillor Peter Griffiths.

“In the short time he has been with us, Peter proved himself to be an active and conscientious councillor, and he will be profoundly missed.

“Our thoughts are with Peter’s wife Marion and their family.”
