AN EVESHAM-BASED plant hire company has launched a new award in memory of a well-respected former colleague.

Jet Plant Hire has named a special shield after Nick Verhoest who died last October and presented it to a colleague who most embodies the company’s values.

Nick, affectionately known as ‘Knocker’ had worked at Jet for 18 years as a driver of one of its iconic low-loader trucks.

The worthy winner of the first Nick Verhoest Award as voted for by his former colleagues was his brother Sean Verhoest who has also worked at Jet for many years.

Sean was presented the award at a special ceremony at the Jet headquarters at Vale Park. He said: “It was a real honour to have been chosen to win this award, especially as it celebrates the legacy of my brother.

“There’s a real family culture at Jet where we all look out for each other and I’m proud to be a part of that.”

Managing director, Sean Witheford, who handed over the trophy, added: “I’d like to congratulate Sean for winning the first Nick Verhoest Award.

“Sean embodies the Jet values through and through just like his brother Nick did. He’s a hardworking and dedicated member of our team and we’re lucky to have him working with us.

“This has also been a lovely way for us to remember our friend and colleague, Nick who was universally liked and admired by both the team and our customers.

“He was treated by the amazing team at St Richard’s Hospice in Evesham, a charity that we’re proud to support.”
