EVESHAM’s MPs past and present  and Pershore’s MP are among those to have paid their respects to former Redditch MP Karen Lumley.

Both Nigel Huddleston and Sir Peter Luff in addition to Harriett Baldwin have joined the cross-party messages of condolences after Mrs Lumley’s family confirmed her passing at the age of 59.

The former Conservative MP from 2010 to 2017 passed away today (Thursday) with her loved ones by her side following a long illness.

In the House of Commons Mrs Lumley sat on the Finance Committee, had been part of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee and the Transport Select Committee.

She was also a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Department of Health.

Mr Huddleston took to social media to pay his respects amid an outpouring of respect which has included tributes in the House of Commons from Penny Mourdaunt and Thangam Debbonaire

“Sombre mood in parliament today as the former MP for Redditch, Karen Lumley, has died.

“She will be fondly remembered across Worcestershire for her boundless energy, ever-present smile, and incredible kindness. And, of course, that laugh!”

Sir Peter also took to Twitter to pay his respects and said:

“Sad news indeed – Karen was a great fighter for her constituents and a wonderfully warm person,” he said.

Mrs Baldwin reflected on the loss of a ‘dear former colleague too soon’.

“Karen Lumley was elected a Worcestershire MP on the same night as me in 2010,” she said

“In Parliament her office was next to mine and her pink hair and raucous laughter brightened every day.”

She is survived by husband, Richard, and children, Lizzie and Chris.
