EVESHAM’S and Pershore’s MPs were among those to hail the ‘inspiring words’ from Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his visit to the Houses of Parliament.
The global figurehead of the fight against Russia’s illegal war in the country made a surprise visit to the UK last week and gave a historic address to both Houses of Parliament.
President Zelenskyy was welcomed to Parliament by Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, the Speaker of the House of Commons, and Lord McFall of Alcluith, the Lord Speaker.
He previously addressed members of both Houses in March 2022 by video link, becoming the first head of state to appear remotely in the Commons Chamber.
President Zelenskyy also separately met with both His Majesty The King and with the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
Pershore’s MP Harriett Baldwin captured a powerful image of President Zelenskyy’s address and hailed his ‘inspiring words’ to parliamentarians.
Evesham’s MP Nigel Huddleston – who was promoted to Minister of State in the new Department for Business and Trade in the mini re-shuffle last week – said the UK stood ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with our Ukrainian friends.
“It was an honour to gather with colleagues from the House of Commons and the House of Lords in historic Westminster Hall in the Palace of Westminster to hear the address from the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” he said.
“It was a memorable occasion with a powerful speech from the President almost a year on from the start of Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine.
