COMMEMORATIONS to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice will see the Vale fall silent this weekend.
Remembrance Sunday (November 12) will feature a parade through the town centre in Evesham before a service to remember all those who gave their lives.
Former service personnel and local uniformed groups such as the town’s Sea Cadets will gather outside Iceland at 10.30am before the parade to the War Memorial in Abbey Park at 10.50am.
All of those gathered will observe the two-minute silence at 11am before the wreath-laying ceremony.
Following the Act of Remembrance, the band will lead the ex-service standard bearers, the civic party and the uniformed organisations to All Saints’ Church for a service of remembrance.
In Pershore, the town’s Royal British Legion will lead the parade from the town’s leisure centre at 10.10am up through the Asda car park before turning left into the High Street, right into Broad Street and onto Church Row.
After arriving at Pershore Abbey, a service of remembrance will take place at 10.40am before the parade retraces its steps back to the leisure centre.
Outside at the Pershore War Horse Memorial there will be gathering for an act of Remembrance at 11am.
The town’s annual Armistice Day service will take place at 11am in Pershore Cemetery at the Cross of Sacrifice tomorrow (Saturday).
A number of road closures will be in place across the county across this weekend in order for parades to go ahead.
Pershore’s Remembrance Day parade on Sunday will see High Street, Broad Street, Church Walk and Church Row closed for two periods between 10am and 11am and again from 12midday to 1pm. Roads will be re-opened as soon as parade progresses
Evesham’s Remembrance Day parade will see the amenity area on the High Street , the High Street and Market Place closed between 10am and 11am.
The High Street will then be closed from Oat Street to Bridge Street and Bridge Street between its junction with High Street and its junction with Mill Street from 10.40am to 11am.
Vine Street for its entire length and Market Place will then be closed for the return parade between 11.45am and 12.30pm
Coun Richard Morris, chairman of the Worcestershire Armed Forces Partnership, said: “It is vitally important the county can come together and take a moment to remember those who have lost their lives fighting for their country.
“During my tenure as chair, we will continue to do all we can to reflect, raise awareness and support those in the Armed Forces community in Worcestershire and build on the fantastic work already being done. This programme of parades is a great example of this.”
