A CELEBRATION of Evesham to mark the success of the Town Plan saw hundreds of visitors head to the heart of the town centre.
#LoveEvesham, was hosted by Evesham Town Council and saw town mayor Coun Richard Jones on hand to formally open the celebrations.
The event showcased the many projects and community groups working to bring the Town Plan vision to life and included children’s activities, various attractions and even a goody bag for visitors compiled by Evesham’s independent businesses.
The event also gave members of the public an opportunity to speak to the Evesham Town Plan committee and discuss upcoming projects.
Coun Jones said: “We’d like to say a resounding thank you to everyone from the area who came along, as well as the people involved in the planning who made ‘#LoveEvesham’ a big success.
“We had lovely weather and a fantastic turnout, and it was great to see the community come together to celebrate our town.”
#LoveEvesham was held to celebrate and encourage community participation in the Town Plan, which was introduced in 2015 with the aim of protecting the town’s heritage, increasing the range of retail and food outlets in the town centre, improving the local environment and promoting Evesham as a beautiful, historic and interesting place to visit.
Projects promoted and supported by the Town Plan committee include ‘Enlighten’, working with Wychavon District Council to create a trail of floodlit historic buildings in the town, the Evesham Abbey project, and the development of a network of cycle and footpaths in and around the town.
Colin Tether, chairman of the Evesham Town Plan committee, added: “The Town Plan belongs to the people of Evesham and we rely on the support of our local residents. It’s with events like these that we can discuss shared thoughts, hopes and dreams for the future of our town.”
