Evening concert back on Carnival programme

THE COUNTDOWN to this year’s Pershore Carnival has received an unexpected boost with the addition of an evening concert.

A lack of funding had initially meant there was no evening entertainment planned to bring the curtain down on this year’s event which is being held on Bank Holiday Monday (May 30).

But thanks to the efforts of committee chairman Colin Shepherd and the kind-hearted support of local busineses, an evening concert is now planned for between 6pm and 10pm.

“At the time of the programme going to print we did not have enough funds to support an evening concert with fire works,” Mr Shepherd said.

“But thanks to the Brandy Cask, Nigel Poole and Hancox, Allchurch Bailey and Andrew Grant we now have evening entertainment.”

Purple Shades, Sandra Mason, Gordon Dean Griff, Emily Phillips and the Pershore Brass will all be taking to stage for the event.

Another highlight of the countdown to carnival takes place today (Friday) as hard-working town traders showcase their creative sides for the annual window dressing competition.

New Mayor Coun Bob Gilmour and Coun Val Wood will be judging the efforts and handing out the awards.
