Environment will be key policy for Greens

AMBITIOUS Green Party chiefs have called on voters to continue the ‘Green surge’ across the county after revealing the party’s candidate for the General Election.

Dr Sue Howarth will do battle in Mid Worcestershire against Conservative Nigel Huddleston, Labour’s Helen Russell, Liberal Democrat Margaret Rowley and Barmy Lord Brockman of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party,

After May’s local elections, the Green Party now boasts a total of 80 elected Green town and district councillors in the West Midlands, including three in Wychavon.

A former science education lecturer and current chair of the Royal Society of Biology, West Midlands, Dr Howarth is an expert in the study of living things. She said the environment and local community issues would be at the heart of her manifesto.

“I’ve lived in Mid Worcestershire for many years and as a parish councillor, I’ve been active in promoting improvements to the local environment,” she said.

“I’m also passionate about improving educational opportunities and urgently addressing climate change issues.

“Everyone deserves to live a healthy life in a clean environment with access to good education.”

Local Green Party co-ordinator Sarah Cohen put the ‘Green surge’ down to the party’s clear and longstanding commitment to tackling climate change.

“It is wonderful to see the commitment and desire people have in Mid Worcestershire for solutions to the climate emergency and social injustice,” she said. “This has manifested in support for the Green Party with five local councillors recently elected throughout the constituency.”
