COUNCIL chiefs in Pershore have welcomed a new youth mayor for the town after Coun Ellie Coleman was elected to the role.

Following elections at Pershore High School, the first meeting of the new Pershore Community Youth Council took place last Wednesday (September 19).

Mayor of Pershore Coun Chris Parsons MBE sits on the council alongside the 15 youth councillors,

As well as Coun Coleman, Coun Skye King was elected as deputy youth mayor for the year ahead.

The dedicated teenagers have already decided to continue to raise money this year for a zip wire on Abbey Park and have already come up with some new ideas for the Christmas light switch on which will take place on Saturday, November 24.

Coun Parsons said: “Last year’s Youth Council were excellent and as well as organising the Christmas Lights switch on and having stalls both at that event and the carnival, they came up with the idea of a zip wire near to the play area on Abbey Park.

“This is supported by Wychavon District Council and now the hard work of raising the funds has started. I firmly believe the young people of our community have a lot to offer and am looking forward to working with the members of the Youth Council over the coming year.”
