AN ESTIMATED 18,000 residents across Wychavon district will not need to vote in the upcoming local elections with eight of the authorities 45 seats being uncontested at this year’s poll.
Current council leader Coun Bradley Thomas has been returned as the member for Harvington and Norton after no other candidate was nominated while Aaron Powell is the new councillor for Bretforton and Offenham.
Many more parish councils have also seen a lack of nominations meaning Wychavon election chiefs have decided a number of polling stations will not be used when voters cast their ballots on May 2.
Among those in Evesham and Pershore not being used are polling stations in village halls in Breforton, Eckington, Harvington, Norton and Offenham.
The Conservatives will look to retain their grip on power and retain the 40 councillors they currently have while the Liberal Democrats will hope to retain the five members the party has on the council.
