A MAN found with Class A and Class B drugs at his Vale home has been fined more than £250.

Simon Wiltshire, of Merstow Green, was found with £20 worth of magic mushrooms, £5 of cannabis skunk and cannabis leaf valued at £20 when officers entered his flat on April 7.

Police visited the 26-year-olds property about 3.15pm and made an arrest on an unrelated matter, before doing a search and finding the illegal substances, Worcester Magistrates Court heard last Friday (May 16).

Wiltshire, who has received three cautions for cannabis possession and cultivation since 2009, said he bought the mushrooms for £25 off a friend to see the effect they have, the court also heard.

The painter and decorator pleaded guilty to both offences and was given fines of £150 for possession of the Class A drug and £100 for possession of a Class B drug.

Richard Hull, defending solicitor, said: “He accepts he has historically used cannabis and this brief use of magic mushrooms was tried by him out of curiosity more than anything.

“He’s a hard-working, proactive young man and he wasn’t out on the streets with these drugs, he was at home.

“These court proceedings have really brought home to him that he can’t carry on and the realisation is starting to dawn he can’t be in possession of cannabis.”

Wiltshire was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.

The drugs were forfeited and destroyed.
