Drop in and Learn to Play at music event ahead of festival

MAKING music will be on the menu this weekend ahead of a new cultural festival coming to Worcester next week.

Severn Arts’ Learn to Play drop-in music event is taking place in Worcester’s new performance arch on Saturday (October 8) and will be opened by the Mayor of Worcester, Coun Adrian Gregson.

And from Monday (October 10), The Rising, a brand-new cultural festival aimed at 18 to 30-year-olds, will see tattooing, fashion and gaming themed events at a number of city centre venues.

The music event, designed to encourage and inspire potential music makers to come and have a go on lots of different instruments and try out a range of digital kit, is taking place from 1pm to 4pm inside Arch 27, Croft Road, Worcester and on the Severn Arts travelling music box which will be parked outside Arch 25.

Local charity ONSIDE Advocacy will also be supporting the event and will be on hand to talk about what they do and how they may be able to support you or someone you know.

The event is free and no booking is needed.

Mayor of Worcester, Coun Adrian Gregson said: “The Learn to Play project is a great opportunity to get involved in music and I am really pleased it gives firm evidence to my mayoral theme this year of art, culture and sport being key ways to tackle issues of health and well-being.

“The two mayoral charities are fitting together well in this event. Additionally, and also as chair of the Arches project, it gives us a chance to showcase the Arches again and the huge potential there is in Worcester to make music, be well, and have fun.”

The Rising has been co-created with a group of local young adults and celebrates tattooing, gaming and fashion and will run until next Sunday (October 16).

David Edmunds, festivals director for Severn Arts said: “I love The Rising brings together such diverse areas as tattooing, gaming and fashion.

“We’re not limiting ourselves to what has traditionally been thought of as culture and has led to some really interesting avenues to explore with The Rising Voice as we bring this festival to Worcester.”

The Rising is part of the Arches Worcester festival programme, co-created with The Rising Voice, a group of young adults from the West Midlands
