TWO Pershore Phoenix Dragon Boat Club members have been crowned world champions after storming to gold in France.
Teenagers David Blackmore and Michael Dacombe were part of Great Britain’s winning Under 18s Dragon Boat Squad at the 13th IDBF Junior and U24 World Nations Championships in Divonne-les-Bains earlier this month.
The squad, who competed against teams from Italy, France, Australia, Spain, Germany, Canada and Hong Kong, returned home with a hoard of medals.
They stormed to gold in the 200m race and picked up bronze medals in the 2,000m, 500m mixed and 500m metre open races.
Both David and Michael train at the Phoenix Dragon Boat Club in Pershore.
This was David’s first international competition after only taking up the sport last year.
Michael returned to the international stage having previously represented Great Britain at the European Championships in Rome last year.
