Don’t forget jabs if you’re travelling

PUBLIC Health England is reminding holidaymakers to make sure their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccinations are up-to-date before they travel abroad because of the continuing risk of contracting measles on continental Europe.

The disease is still endemic in many countries around the world, including Europe, and France, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Germany are among the countries reporting the highest case counts according to the latest monthly data.

In the UK, confirmed measles cases have been rising since 2018, with 231 cases confirmed in England in the first quarter of 2019.

Young people and adults aged 15 and over who missed out on the MMR vaccine when they were young, and some under-vaccinated communities, have been particularly affected.
