DONATIONS for the funeral of an Evesham man who died whilst riding his motorbike in Worcester have poured in as his family have left a heartwarming tribute online.
A GoFundMe page set up for Andy Hirons, aged 52, described him as a ‘devoted husband’, a ‘loving and caring father’, and ‘the proudest granddad ever’ who ‘gave his all for his family’.
Andy was killed around 5.30pm last Thursday (August 15) on the A4358, Pershore Lane whilst riding with friends to a local motorbike meet in Worcester – a hobby he had taken up later in life as a ‘little me time’ after sacrificing his best years to raise his family.
Andy’s family is made up of his wife of 30 years, Tracey and their three children Stacey, Kim and Steven. Andy was also father-in-law to Scott and Chloe. His grandchildren include three-year-old Marcie, two-year-old Eloise, and 11-month-old Noah.
Kim Walker, Andy’s daughter said: “It is heart breaking to realise he will not get to watch them grow, as they loved him dearly. He was also a son, brother, uncle, cousin and in law to many.”
The ‘family man’ lived in the Evesham area all his life. He had worked as a farmer, a driver, in security, and even a retained fire fighter at Pebworth Station – something his family and friends were very proud of.
Kim added: “We are opening this GoFundMe page to help our family give such a special man, the most fitting and best send off we can.
“To help the whole family grieve in their loss without the struggle and worry of the expenses of the funeral and all other aspects as Andy was the main wage earner for our family.”
A target of £7,000 has been set for the fund. Within a few hours of being set up, well-wishers had donated over £1,000. At the time of writing the fund had amassed over £4,400 in donations.
Any additional funding will be passed on to the Air Ambulance Charity – a cause close to Andy’s heart.
Kim added: “We as a family are absolutely blown away with the support we have had from everyone. We really do appreciate every donation.”
