Donation delight for community nursing team

Evesham Editorial 2nd Dec, 2023   0

A COMMUNITY nursing team providing care for patients in south Worcestershire are the latest recipients of a vein finder donation.

The team which covers Evesham, Broadway, Bredon and Inkberrow, brings together professionals, including district nurses, therapists, GPs, and social care staff to provide care and treatment to patients in their own homes.

Their aim is to deliver more proactive and responsive care, to reduce avoidable hospital admissions and repeat GP appointments.

The vein finder has been donated by the Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust and is the second to be presented to staff at Evesham Community Hospital.

It uses infrared technology to display veins hidden under the skin on a digital screen, helping clinicians locate them when taking blood or inserting an intravenous cannular.

The Trust is an independent charity with the aim and objective of promoting and assisting in the prevention and relief of sickness, suffering and distress.

Sarah Blizzard, District Nurse in the team said:

“The team have found the vein finder very beneficial. We often encounter people who, for various reasons, are difficult to take blood from.

“The vein finder has reduced stress and discomfort for our patients.

“Thank you very much to The Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust for supplying the EBBI Neighbourhood Team with this equipment.”

Sue Sollis, trust founding member said:

“We are delighted to be able to donate a second vein finder to Evesham Community Hospital and are pleased to hear the difference it is making to staff and patients.

“We would like to encourage other community hospitals to get in touch if they are interested in a vein finder donation”.

The Trust was founded in memory of 15-year-old Tracy Sollis, who sadly passed away with leukaemia in 1995. Tracy’s wish was to help others suffering from the disease.

The charity, which is based in Evesham has set out to provide vein finders to as many hospitals as possible.
