Dogs' Trust looking for foster carers for its four-legged residents

THE DOGS Trust in Evesham is looking for foster families who can offer their residents somewhere to stay until they find their forever homes.

The Home from Home fostering scheme places pooches in temporary homes where they can get some TLC with loving families whilst they wait to be adopted.

But the rehoming centre is particularly in need of foster families with no other pets or children as well as families who are happy to take on larger breeds.

Sarah Galvin, The Dogs Trust’s home from home co-ordinator, said: “Some dogs can struggle to adapt to kennel life, especially if they have come from a home environment previously.

“These dogs, as well as dogs that are perhaps poorly or pregnant, strays, older dogs or puppies all benefit from being in a home environment whilst they wait for their new family.”

She added the charity also needed people who were happy caring for larger breeds.

Dedicated foster carers Jo and Simon Kite have been foster carers for two years and have so far helped care for seven dogs.

Jo, who has been fostering Staffordshire bull terrier DJ for the last six months. said: “The thing I love most about fostering is that no two dogs are the same.

“Every single one is different and I could go on all day listing the individual personalities and characters of each dog.”

She said the great thing about it was carers had the chance to help lots of dogs and the support of the trust to provide everything needed and cover all the costs.

“Even though it can be hard to part with the dogs when they find their new family, it is so worth it knowing you’ve helped them find their perfect home.”
