Dogs Trust Evesham delight at Dachshund Daphne reunion

DELIGHTED staff at Dogs Trust Evesham are highlighting the importance of microchipping and updating dog ownership details after the successful reunion of a missing Dachshund Daphne with her owner.

Earlier this year, a lost female Dachshund was brought to Dogs Trust Evesham.

They discovered she was microchipped but as the details were not up to date, her owner couldn’t be traced.

The dog was passed into the care of the local authority pound, but when she wasn’t claimed after seven days, returned to Dogs Trust Evesham to be put up for adoption.

The team at Dogs Trust named her Daphne and helped her recover from surgery for a broken leg and pelvis.

Meanwhile, a local veterinary practice reported a second stray dog to the dog warden.

Through the dog’s microchip, they were able to contact its owner who had experienced the theft of two dogs in 2021 in Kent and was eager to know about other stray dogs found in the area. It soon became apparent that she was the missing owner of Daphne, the Dachshund in the care of Dogs Trust Evesham.

After providing proof of ownership, Daphne’s owner embarked on a three-hour journey from Kent to Evesham to be reunited with her missing dogs.

Chris Slight, Rehoming Centre Manager, said: “When a dog goes missing it is incredibly stressful for their owners and families.

“However, as Daphne’s incredible story shows, ensuring their microchip details are kept up to date gives owners the best opportunity of being reunited with their canine friend should the worst happen, and they go missing.”

Dogs Trust Evesham encourages all dog owners to prioritise the microchipping of their pets and regularly update their ownership details.

This simple step can significantly increase the chances of a lost or stolen dog finding their way back home.
