AN EVESHAM doctor’s surgery has been rated as ‘good’ by health inspectors just eight months after the safety of services at the surgery were branded ‘inadequate.’
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out a follow-up inspection at the Riverside Surgery in January to find out if the practice had made the improvements inspectors detailed in their damning report last year.
In their last inspection in May 2016, inspectors found a catalogue of errors including a blunder in September 2015 which saw prescription medicine sent out to an Evesham resident despite a relative contacting the surgery to say it was no longer needed.
Inspectors also found two fridges containing vaccines were temporarily located in a communal room during completion of the extension works.
As a result, the CQC demanded surgery managers carry out a number of improvements before they returned in January for a further inspection.
Following the January inspection, the CQC rated the overall service at the surgery as ‘good’ after finding the practice had ‘significantly improved.’
“There were clearly defined processes and procedures to ensure patients were safe and an effective system in place for reporting and recording significant events,” the report said.
“Patients told us they were treated with dignity, respect and compassion. Patients were involved in decisions about their care and treatment.”
Dr Amanda Swindlehurst, manager of the Riverside Surgery, said: “We are very pleased and very proud of the practice’s achievements.
“The team worked very hard since the last visit and this is reflected in the CQC report with all areas of the practice’s work being rated as ‘good’.
“We have got an excellent team, from the doctors to the nurses, the admin staff to the management team, as well as the dispensary staff.”
