Disruption from tomorrow on the main Evesham to Broadway commuter route as new gas pipes are fitted

COMMUTERS travelling on the main route between Evesham and Broadway could face some disruption on Monday, October 8, when work to upgrade underground gas pipes gets under way.

The maintenance, in Pitchers Hill, Wickhamford, will last for 11 weeks and is being carried out by Wales and West Utilities.

The work is essential to keep the gas flowing so homes in the area can be heated and the company has been working closely with Worcestershire County Council to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum for the community.

A set of rolling traffic lights will be in place along the A44 – between Longdon Hill and Evesham Road – while the work is going on.

They will move as the work progresses.

Mick Gallavin, Wales and West Utilities’ programme controller, said people travelling along Pitchers Hill should allow extra time while the work was being carried out.

“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”

He added he was aware of the effect the work could have on communities and commuters but added the firm would be working as safely and as quickly as possible to ensure the work would be completed in a short a time as possible, causing the least inconvenience.
