Disabled ramp installed at Pershore Scout hut thanks to donation

WHEELCHAIR users will soon be able join a Pershore scout group after a county housebuilder donated £1,000 towards building a disabled access ramp at its hut.

The First Pershore Scout Group recently received the donation from Persimmon Homes South Midlands as part of the builder’s ‘Community Champions’ project, which supports charities and organisations in the areas of its developments.

The cash, along with £6,000 the scout group have already raised, will go towards installing a disabled access ramp at the group’s premises at Pershore College.

Hayley Tomkins, from the Pershore Scout Group, said: “Persimmon’s generous donation will help us out immensely, as we’re going to purchase our new disabled access ramp.

“The scout hut has gone from strength to strength in recent times and we’re so pleased this can continue.

“We have a few disabled children on our waiting list to attend our groups, but we can’t get them in the building at the moment, so this kind donation is really helpful.”

Carol Selway, head of sales for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “First Pershore Scout Group is a social hub for young people in the region, so we’re thrilled to be able to help out with their new premises.

“The group has already worked hard to raise a significant amount for the disabled access ramp and we’re pleased to be able to help complete their fund-raising.

“Our scheme gives charities and community groups from across Worcestershire the chance to apply for up to £1,000 of funding. It’s been a hugely successful scheme which has allowed us to support more than 20 good causes already.”
