Developer returns to plans for 200 homes off Boat Lane after medieval human remains find

A BID to build 200 homes on land where human remains were discovered earlier this year has been resubmitted by a housing developer.

Taylor Wimpey has returned to Wychavon District Council to seek approval for the site off Boat Lane in Evesham which will be known as Chyryton Grange.

Earlier this year, human remains, believed to date back to the medieval period, were found on the site.

Wychavon’s planning committee consequently deferred Taylor Wimpey’s previous planning application for the site to allow for further archaeological investigations to take place.

Taylor Wimpey bosses have since undertaken careful assessments and engagement with key stakeholders, including Historic England, to ensure the final development layout respects the history of the site.

The latest application includes a community orchard, a new children’s play area, and a network of pedestrian and cycle links with the town centre.

“The developer continues to engage with the Hampton Bridge group to align plans for a new pedestrian river crossing with those of Chyrtyon Grange to ensure both can be delivered swiftly.

Joe Blincoe from Taylor Wimpey, said the plans would deliver much-needed family housing, with 40 per cent of the new homes being affordable.

“The archaeology and heritage of the site is of the utmost importance to us and we’re committed to continued engagement with council officers, local stakeholders and Historic England to ensure the best outcome is delivered for both the site and Evesham”.
