Delight at donation

VOLUNTEERS at a much-loved town community centre are celebrating a £5,000 cash boost thanks to this year’s Evesham 10K.

This year’s event in July proved to be one of the most successful in its 12 year history with hundreds of runners from across the country flocking to the Vale to take part.

The success saw organisers from Evesham Vale Running Club able to hand over a cheque to members of Wallace House Community Centre on Monday (October 14).

Centre manager Fiona Bolton thanked the running club and all who took part in the thriving event during the summer for their support.

“Wallace House Community Centre has been at the heart of the community since the 1960s and is home to a diverse range of groups including children and young people, families, the elderly, vulnerable groups and more,” she said.

“We have to compete for grants like so many others and rely on fund-raising to deliver a lot of our activities. Your amazing donation will be ear-marked to increase the use of the main area.

“In the past it’s been a community space where local groups and individuals could get together and socialise but a lack of funds has seen a decline.

“It will be wonderful to put this generous donation towards refurbishing the social space to make it more accessible to everyone. We don’t need exciting, glamorous and hi-tech but we do love to be friendly, warm and welcoming,” she added.

Race chiefs have fired the starting gun on preparations for next year’s race which will take place on July 5.

Organisers are on the hunt for a local charity to be supported and have asked residents to nominate a worthy cause with details of how the funds will be used.

They are also looking for sponsors to help support the event and are offering a range of sponsorship packages including the coveted ‘headline’ spot.

Entries for the 2020 event will open at the beginning of December. Runners can start their training for the race by joining Evesham Vale Running Club who have regular sessions for all abilities.
