Delight as fire station is unveiled

EVESHAM’S brand new fire station has been officially opened as local dignitaries gathered at the state-of-the-art venue for the ceremony.

Coun Derek Prodger, Chairman of the Fire Authority, opened the Abbey Road station last Thursday (March 16) by unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

Firefighters also paraded outside their new station to celebrate the event, as well as speeches from the Fire Authority Chairman and the Chief Fire Officer Nathan Travis.

Guests who attended the event were also treated to a tour of the station and the facilities which boasts two floors, three appliance bays and a state-of-the-art strategic training facility.

Crews transferred to the new station, which was project managed by the Place Partnership and built by Greswolde Construction, back in December.

The old station on Merstow Green will be demolished this spring to make way for the new Waitrose store.

Coun Prodger said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to officially open Evesham Fire Station. This day marks the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication from all those involved in obtaining this fantastic new facility.

“I have been involved with this great Fire Authority for almost 20 years now – six of which have been as Chairman – and I can very honestly say that there hasn’t been a single day when it hasn’t been a joy and an honour to be part of such a magnificent organisation.

“Days like today make it even more special. Therefore, it is with mixed emotions that stand here today about to undertake my last official job as Chairman of the Fire Authority.”

Chief Fire Officer Nathan Travis said: “I’m very proud of the new station and what it means for the firefighters that work here and the people of Evesham, who now have a modern fire station that will serve them for many years to come.”
