Deadline approaching to apply for school transport for September

Evesham Editorial 20th Jul, 2023   0

THE DEADLINE for applying for school transport for the next school year is fast approaching.

Parents need to submit their applications to Worcestershire County Council by Monday, July 31.

Applications made after the deadline may not be assessed before the start of term and parents will need to make alternative arrangements.

Coun Tracey Onslow, cabinet member for Education, said: “We know school transport is really important to parents so it is important that applications are submitted before the deadline.”

Coun Mike Rouse, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “Demand for spaces has been increasing every year, so it’s really important to get applications in as early as possible to avoid delays or disappointment. Please help us to spread this important message.”

Parents do not need to apply if their child is already receiving school transport, and there are no new changes to report including those paying for vacant seats.

Parents also do not need to re-apply if they have already applied for the 2023/24 school year.

In line with the County Council’s usual practice, confirmation of all offers of vacant seats will not be made until after October half-term as the County Council needs to allocate seats to those children who are eligible first.

Parents of non-eligible children wishing to take advantage of any discretionary places will be placed on a waiting list and parents are advised to make their own suitable travel arrangements for the start of the new academic year.

Once availability of vacant seats is confirmed, the Transport Team will contact parents.
