A PROFESSIONAL actor and former member of Evesham Operatic and Dramatic Society (EODS) is returning to direct their next production, Broadway and Beyond.
Evesham-born Daniel Callaghan was a part of his local society for many years before leaving to pursue a career on the stage.
Having completed musical theatre training at a top drama school in London, Dan has gone on to perform in television adverts and touring pantomimes; this Christmas will see him portray Dame Trott in IKProductions’ Jack and the Beanstalk around the country.
Although building a career for himself on the professional stage, Dan has agreed to come back to his roots where his love for theatre began.
“I am incredibly excited to be coming back to EODS with Broadway and Beyond. It’s going to be very different being in the director’s seat and not on the stage, but I can’t wait for this exciting opportunity.
“Being part of EODS led me to the career I now have,” Dan said.
“I have made many lifelong friends through the society, including meeting my fiancée, so I encourage anybody who might be interested to see what being a member is all about. Whether you have been on the stage before or not, there’s something for everyone.”
EODS’ chairman Vicky Stanford-Edwards said: “We are thrilled Dan is returning and sharing his expertise and experience from the successful stage career he is now building for himself.
“It’s so fulfilling as a society to see one of our former members take the next step to the professional stage and even more rewarding when those links are maintained through musical projects like Broadway and Beyond.”
Broadway and Beyond is set to be an exciting show full of toe tapping, finger-clicking good tunes from the Great White Way as well as classic favourites from the folk, rock, pop and country genres.
It will feature songs from the likes of Calamity Jane, Frozen, Shrek, Come From Away, Mary Poppins, Hello Dolly! and more. The society are always on the lookout for new members and people who want to join in.
Anyone interested in joining Broadway and Beyond can take part in a presentation evening on Wednesday (November 23) at 7.30pm at the EODS rehearsal rooms, 2 Workman Road, Hampton, Evesham, WR11 2PN.
