Cruising towards her first big break

A FORMER Prince Henry’s High School student has taken to the high seas in the first big break of her career as a performer onboard Marella Cruises’ Discovery 2.

Local girl Gemma Gathergood was recruited by Yorkshire based Peel Entertainment in April following hotly-contested nationwide auditions and has just completed an intensive 10 weeks of rehearsals.

Gemma, who also studied the Jacqueline Williams School of Dance in Willersey will perform a dance solo in new show, Nashville Nights as well as singing ‘Hello’ by Lionel Ritchie.

Marella Cruises Entertainment, famous for its West End style shows, has helped to launch many young people’s careers in the entertainment industry, not least Cleopatra Joseph and Joseph Fletcher, who are both currently starring in West End productions.

The full onboard entertainment team, comprising 12 accomplished singers and dancers drawn from all over Europe, are now ready to take to the stage. They will present their impressive itinerary of 11 shows, which they will perform twice a night for two weeks throughout the year-long tour onboard Discovery 2, which sailed from Corfu last Friday.

“I have dreamt about being a performer since I was a child, and have been working towards this moment for years, so I am incredibly excited about the opportunity,” Gemma said.

“The whole process has been really enjoyable, from the initial auditions at Pineapple Dance Studios in London, to the last 10 weeks where myself and the team have literally lived and worked together 24/7. It’s been very demanding but I have enjoyed every minute and can’t wait to become part of the team.”
