Crematorium invites public to remember mums ahead of Mother's Day

THE VALE Crematorium is inviting relatives to visit ahead of Mother’s Day and take time to remember the loved ones they have lost.

On Saturday, 29 March between 10am and 12.30pm, the crematorium’s chapel will be open to allow visitors to have quiet moments of reflection.

Visitors will be able to light commemorative candles in honour of the deceased and write personalised messages onto wooden hearts which can be placed into a communal display frame or taken home.

Cards for people to write personal messages and deposit them in a Letters to Loved Ones memorial post box will also be provided.

Manager Catherine Linfield said: “We know, from feedback since the post box was installed, that the bereaved can take great comfort from posting messages to loved ones, and it helps them maintain a feeling of connection with them.”

Anyone is welcome to visit – it does not matter whether there is a memorial to their mother or mother figure in the crematorium grounds, or where their funeral took place.

Where they live or whether the person was recently bereaved, or suffered a loss some time ago is also irrelevant.

“Mother’s Day is one of those annual occasions when a loss can be felt more and we want to ensure people know that they are very welcome to take comfort in paying tribute to their loved ones at our crematorium.

“It can equally be a particularly difficult time for mothers who are bereaved of a child, and they are also extremely welcome to visit us,” she added.

The Vale Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 41 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales.

All are set within attractive landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

This year’s Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, March 30.
