A WORCESTER lad has set sail on the Royal Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales.

20-year-old Air Engineering Technician Class 1 Jack Frayne sailed from Portsmouth on the 65,000 tonne leviathan at the end of April having joined the Royal Navy in 2017.

The Portsmouth based sister of HMS Queen Elizabeth is currently on sea trials off the South Coast of England after receiving a series of upgrades and enhancements throughout 2020.

On board, Jack is a member of the Air Weapons Party and helps to maintain aircraft as well as the state of the art weapon handling system. He is also part of the team that receives visiting aircraft on the massive 4.5 acre flight deck.

Before he joined HMS Prince of Wales, Jack served with 825 Naval Air Squadron maintaining Wildcat helicopters at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton.

Jack’s career is onwards upwards as he has recently been selected to be an officer and will begin training at the World famous Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in September 2021.

“I really enjoy being part of a big team and something that is bigger than just me. The navy has already given me many opportunities and I am looking forward to the next challenge,” he said.
