WORCESTERSHIRE is set to receive more than half a million pounds in Government funding to help get rough sleepers off the streets and into accommodation.

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick MP announced councils would receive a share of funding from the £112million ‘Rough Sleeping Initiative’.

This funding is a 30 per cent increase this year and will be used by local authorities, charities and other organisations to fund up to 6,000 new bed spaces and 2,500 support staff across the country.

As part of this announcement, Worcestershire will receive a share of £672,308 which will help vulnerable rough sleepers in Redditch and across the county to get the support they need to rebuild their lives.

The Rough Sleeping Initiative was launched in 2018 to ensure local areas were given the boost they needed to provide these vital services for those living on the streets.

The funding will be used by councils to create street-based services, establish first stage accommodation such as hostels and hubs and also emergency access beds.
