The event is the brainchild of Eric Jones, director of the Festival Players and kicks off tomorrow (Friday) with a drama and music evening at Hampton Ferry at 7pm.

The rest of the weekend is free, with performances on a stage erected in Market Square. There will be a children’s entertainment on Saturday at 2pm and 4pm, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Funky Pigs presented by the professional group, Theatre2U.

Bandwagon Productions brings the blockbuster music of the movies at 7.30pm.

The experienced directors said he hoped as many people possible will gather safely and enjoy the music and words.

“Getting through the Covid year of 2020 has not been very easy for anybody. Our hearts and thanks go out to the NHS workers and scientists who’ve kept us safe, and developed the vaccines which will give us back our freedom,” he said.

“We’ve had food delivered to our shops or to our homes and we have survived financially, although some sadly, with considerable difficulty. We’re nearly over the very worst of it all.”
