Countdown is on to this year's popular Evesham Carnival

The countdown is on to Evesham’s popular annual carnival which will once again see brightly coloured floats grace the town’s streets.

This year’s event will be held next Saturday and the Vale of Evesham Round Table and Carnival Committee will once again play a huge part in bringing the local community together.

Last year the streets of the town were lined with crowds of people as they cheered and applauded the brightly decorated floats, walking participants and marching bands.

This year it is predicted to be even bigger with 20 floats and more than 150 walking participants already confirmed, who will dance, sing and entertain the crowds along the two mile route around the town.

The first Evesham Carnival was held in 1928 to help fund the construction of a hospital in the town and the Vale of Evesham Round Table have been organizing the event since 1965.

This year’s theme is ‘Driving through the Decades’, celebrating music and fashion from the 1940’s to the present day.

The procession around the river side town starts and finishes at the picturesque crown meadow, where the crowds will be able to enjoy live music, a vintage tea room, a beer tent, a plays, food stalls, face painting and fairground rides.

Led by a carriage carrying the Carnival Queen, the floats include local schools, clubs, charities and local businesses.

The best floats are judged on the day by the town Mayor and the Round Table’s Chairman.

The new carnival queen and her attendees were chosen following a fun day of auditions organized by the Evesham Ladies Circle.

This year we are hosting a drawing competition for our younger spectators under the theme of ‘Evesham Town’ with excellent prizes for the best in each age group.

These will be judged and the winners announced on the meadow after the procession returns.

The whole event really is a great example of Round Table working with the whole community to create a fantastic day for all the family.
