Council reminds Evesham and Pershore residents not to forget ID on polling day

VOTERS across Evesham and Pershore are being reminded not to leave home without their photo ID when they go to vote, with polling day fast approaching.

Following a change in the law by the Government, voters will need to show valid photo ID at a polling station when local elections take place on Thursday (May 4), otherwise they will not be allowed to vote.

Valid photo ID includes a driving licence, passport, older person’s bus pass or an identify card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (PASS). The full list can be found on poll cards or on Wychavon’s website at www.wychavon.gov.uk/elections.

Polling stations will be open on the day from 7am until 10pm. Some 43 seats on Wychavon District Council will be contested along with 100 seats on parish and town councils. In some areas there is no parish or town council election because the number of candidates nominated does not exceed the number of seats available.

Vic Allison, Returning Officer and Chief Executive for Wychavon District Council, said: “We don’t want anyone to miss out on having their say.

“Ahead of May 4, people may also wish to set a reminder on their phone or put a post it note somewhere to remind them to take their photo ID with them when they vote.

“I know the new Voter ID requirement may be an inconvenience or a frustration for some people, but I ask that everyone is polite and kind to our elections staff, who are there to make sure people can exercise their democratic right in a free and fair way.”
