Cost-of-living fairs see surge in visitor numbers

A SERIES of cost-of-living fairs at the county’s libraries saw a surge of visitors to Worcestershire’s six largest libraries.

The fairs saw an additional 835 people visit the libraries, equating to a 32 per cent increase in visitors compared to the average number of visitors in January and February.

Each event was joined by 20 to 30 partners who were on hand to offer advice to people on a wide range of areas including how they could save on heating bills, keep warm and well, and claim financial support they are entitled to.

Among those in attendance were Act on Energy, Age UK, Seetec, Department for Work and Pensions, Trussel Trust and Shaw Trust.

Local services including Adult Learning Worcestershire, the Living Well for Longer Team, Worcestershire Libraries Digital Champions, and Here to Help Worcestershire, were also on hand to provide information and guidance to residents.

Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Communities, said: “They provided an excellent platform for the community to access valuable information and advice on managing living costs.

“Our plans are to continue hosting similar events at other locations, building on the success of these events and supporting the community in managing the ongoing cost of living challenges.”
