CONSTRUCTION of a brand new £1.7million development at the Valley has officially begun – with new shops and leisure space all lined up.

On Monday (May 15) the owners of the retail park, Eagle One, along with Wychavon District Council, Norton & Lenchwick Parish Council and construction firm Speller Metcalfe, joined to celebrate the start of the new phase by putting the first spade in the ground.

The new development will also include the much-anticipated Boardman Bikes Performance Centre.

Construction work is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with the Performance Centre due to open in early 2018 as well as the new shops and leisure space.

Phil Merrick, Head of Economy and Communities at Wychavon District Council, said: “We are delighted to see this new investment coming into the district.

“I am particularly excited by the Boardman investment which will really help put Evesham on the national map as a major leisure and sporting destination.

“I am sure that this will have a significant impact on jobs and be a boost to local hotels and restaurants.”

Commenting on the development, Eagle One Asset Manager, Robin Langford, added: “We would like to put on record our thanks to the Wychavon District Council team for their efforts in making the new phase possible.

“Today’s ceremony is another significant milestone in the success story of The Valley Evesham and shows our commitment to the area by continuing to invest so heavily.

“We look forward to the completion of the works and seeing the Vale of Evesham benefit as a whole.”

Des O’Neill, Managing Director at Speller Metcalfe, said: “Speller Metcalfe is delighted to be a part of such an exciting project. As a local company, we are focused on employing sub-contractors from within 30 miles of the site; which helps promote new opportunities and contribute to our local economy.”
