Concerns raised over Abbey Bridge steps

CONCERNS have been raised about the levels of water gathering on the steps down from the Abbey Bridge to Corporation Meadow.

Mark and Helen Meopham from Avon View spoke to the Observer following the heavy rain fall earlier this week which left large pools of water on the steps.

The concerned couple said: “We have just walked down the steps from the new bridge to Corporation Meadow and the steps are swimming with water from the rain.

“They are not draining and when they freeze it will be lethal. Are the steps finished or is there another surface to go on top?

“We wonder how many compensation claims, for slips and falls, there will be if the arctic winter that is forecast does happen.” they added.

In response, a Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of the potential problems with the steps and other features and have given the contractors a snagging list.

“Discussions have taken place with Hochtief and we are awaiting a reply.

“We appreciate the issue being raised and will ensure it is looked at by the contractors.”
