COLLEGE students in Pershore have hosted a celebratory coronation event for members of the local community.

Pershore College, which is part of WCG, welcomed guests from Willow Care Home and Stanway Club for a special afternoon tea as part of celebrations to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.

Guests joined together at the college which was transformed into a street party with bunting, tablecloths, decorations and hats.

Supported Learning catering students created an afternoon tea including sandwiches, scones, cakes and a Coronation quiche.

While some of the students were tasked with preparing the food, others worked front of house taking orders and serving drinks.

WCG President Louise Bennett, who is also Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands, and Pershore Town Councillor Michael Chapman Pincher were also in attendance to join the festivities.

Louise Badham, Head of Department for Supported Learning, Re-Engagement and Schools for Worcestershire at WCG, said: “This was a brilliant opportunity to welcome members of the community into the college to mark the Coronation.

“The students did incredibly well at hosting a fantastic celebratory event for our guests, preparing delicious food and creating a wonderful atmosphere.

“It was an opportunity for them to show off the culinary skills they have developed at the college while giving them a real flavour for the industry and first-hand experience in catering for events.

“We hope our guests enjoyed their afternoon tea and celebrating the Coronation with us.”

The event at Pershore College was one of three events being hosted by WCG, with Coronation lunches also held at its colleges in Leamington and Rugby.

Louise Bennett added: “The Coronation of King Charles III is a moment in history and a wonderful opportunity to create a sense of community, and it was lovely that three of our colleges celebrated this with special events featuring lunches and an afternoon tea prepared by students.
