Community say it with roses to grateful residents of care home

COMMUNITY-minded residents showed their kindness with donations of roses to a Throckmorton care home.

Vale residents and businesses came together to shower residents at Willow Bank Residential Home with love as part of a unique idea by home bosses.

Management at the home went into partnership with Fladbury Flowers ahead of Valentine’s Day as part of community-wide idea to ask local people to send a single red rose to residents with no family or loved ones.

And the home on Tilesford Park was overwhelmed with kindness as 61 single long-stemmed roses were delivered, all donated by members of the local community.

“Most of our residents are living with dementia, some have very few visitors and very few received flowers on Valentines’ Day, so a gesture like this was really special to them,” a spokesperson for the home said.

“The community did us proud, we had Merstow Green funeral directors who went to the flower shop and told them they would donate any that we were short as they didn’t want any resident to go without.

“Even the girl that delivered them was in tears, not to mention the care home staff.

“It was such a success we will definitely do it again next year,” she added.
