THE PUBLIC is being urged to come and ‘say hello’ to members of travelling communities during a roadshow that is calling at Bidford library tomorrow (June 27).

June is Gypsy, Roma and Traveller history month (GRTHM) and the Warwickshire GRT engagement group has teamed up with the county libraries and primary schools to explore GRT history and culture in Warwickshire.

Through celebration, education and raising awareness, GRTHM helps to tackle prejudice, challenge myths and to amplify the voices of Gypsies, Roma and travellers in wider society.

The event features artwork by school children, colouring activities such as bookmark designing, name the famous people quiz, weaving demonstrations, mask making, storytelling, and craft activities such as jewellery making and peg decorating.

There will also be various professionals and GRT representatives to speak to and ask questions.

The group, headed by GRT liaison advisor for Warwickshire Police, Martin Rone-Clarke 29-year career as a police officer with the Warwickshire force.

“Since 2023, the Warwickshire GRT Engagement group has put together a project to celebrate Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month.

“Following the last two successful years, once again the group has teamed up with Warwickshire Libraries and local primary schools from Warwickshire and across the border with roadshows to showcase the children’s art.

“It is crucial that we continue to increase awareness and dispel the many myths about this marginalised community that so many do not understand. This project is a small but important part of this educational process,” Mr Rone-Clarke said.

The event at Bidford Library on Bramley Way runs between 10am and 2pm.
