A HARD-WORKING Evesham teenage volunteer and the chairman of Pershore’s popular annual carnival were among those from the Vale honoured at this year’s Wychavon District Council Community Recognition Awards.

Held at Peopleton Village Hall on March 8, the awards give those who have volunteered, coached or helped others in the district a chance to gain well deserved recognition for their efforts in helping to make Wychavon a better place to live and work.

Kiaragh Brown, 13, was honoured with the Young Volunteer award for her tireless work raising money for British Heart Foundation and raising awareness of pancreatic cancer.

Colin Shepherd, chairman of the Pershore Carnival committee was awarded the Volunteer award in recognition for his work while the Evesham Round Table scooped the Community Group award at the ceremony.

The popular town group was recognised for its hard work and dedication in raising funds with the ever-popular Santa Sleigh project and the work in bringing the Evesham Carnival back to life.

Popular Pinvin publicans Mike and Christine Harris of the Coach and Horses pub in the village were honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award in honour of their endless efforts with local events and raising cash for good causes.

Anne Poulter also received a Lifetime Achievement award for all her years of dedication given to the scouts, but especially to Badsey Beavers.

Tracy Grubb, community development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “Every category this year was full of very well deserving people who put the needs of others before themselves.

“It was very hard for the judges to choose the finalists let alone the winners and it just goes to show how many unselfish people dedicate their time and efforts to make others happy and feel included in their communities. I feel very proud that they are part of the Wychavon District.”
