Community celebrates opening of new £450,000 hall

Evesham Editorial 24th Jul, 2022   0

VOLUNTEERS and local groups gathered to celebrate the official opening of a £450,000 sports and leisure venue in Crowle.

The new offering includes the Platinum Hall, a community building which will provide much-needed additional space for many new activities.

A new outdoor exercise track, multi-use games area, outdoor covered arena, outdoor table tennis and picnic tables have also formed part of the project.

Much of the funding for the project came from a £200,000 award from Wychavon District Council’s Community Legacy Grant scheme. The rest was funded by Crowle Parish Council, Crowle Parish Hall Trust and a grant from the Worcestershire County Councillor’s discretionary fund, as well as generous contributions from individuals and groups in the community.

Ruth Dawson-Jones, chair of Crowle Parish Council, said: “We consulted local residents during lockdown, and they told us they wanted more leisure and recreation facilities to ‘connect the community’ by creating more ways for people to meet and have social contact.”

Activities in the new Platinum Hall, which will be run by Crowle Parish Hall Trust, start this week.

Trust chair Robert Moore, said: “There has been strong interest in bookings for the new hall, especially for organised exercise classes for all ages including pilates, yoga and dance. A new table tennis group will also be starting.”

Alex Sinton, chair of Wychavon District Council, officially opened the new venue and said: “This project is an outstanding example of what can be achieved by a determined local community.

“I was especially impressed by the level of volunteer involvement and the speed with which the project has been completed.”
