Commonwealth batonbearers to each receive commemorative baton

Evesham Editorial 8th Sep, 2022   0

BATONBEARERS who took part in the English leg of the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will each receive a souvenir baton to acknowledge and celebrate their involvement.

A baton will also be handed out to key supporters of the global relay, which marked the build-up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The premium souvenirs are the same shape as the official Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton which was used throughout the relay.

Each batonbearer taking part in the relay was nominated due to their inspirational stories ranging from a challenge they had overcome to them making a difference in their community.

They will each receive their batons from the end of September, with each one individually laser etched with the recipient’s name and route.

The relay began last October with the baton taking a journey across all of the 72 Commonwealth nations and territories that participated in the Games.

The original baton, which had a message placed inside from the Queen, covered 90,000 miles during its 269-day long journey across the Commonwealth.

It then returned to England, travelling a further 2,500 miles across 25 days before it arrived at the Alexander Stadium on July 28.

Birmingham 2022 CEO Ian Reid said: “We wanted to thank all of our amazing Batonbearers for taking part in the Queen’s Baton Relay.

“Their stories are a true inspiration and we hope that this gesture will remind them of their special day and the role they played in the Games.”

A limited number of Batons will also be available to the public.
