A FORMER Evesham Mayor has described his appearance on a hit Channel 4 show Come Dine With Me as a ‘once in a lifetime experience.’
Channel 4 viewers will see Coun Mark Goodge swap politics for pots and pans and don his apron this evening (Friday) in an attempt to win £1,000 by cooking for three people he’d never met before.
The Wychavon District and Evesham town councillor only applied for the show ‘on a whim’ after spotting a tweet on Twitter calling for anyone who lives in the area to apply to take part in the show.
“Overall, I really enjoyed being a part of it. It was a very intense week with a lot of late nights and there was a lot of hard work involved, but it’s a once in a lifetime experience and I have no regrets about doing it.
Coun Goodge said he had a new found respect for TV chefs Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson after his experience cooking in front of the cameras.
“The toughest part of the cooking wasn’t the fact that I was doing it for strangers, it was doing it all in front of a camera.
“It made me realise just how much of an effort professionals like Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson are actually putting in when it all seems so easy on screen. I don’t think it’s made me a better cook, but I did learn a lot in the process.
“I don’t have any regrets now – that might change on Friday! The contestants don’t get a preview of the show, we have to wait for the transmission date like everyone else.
“So I’m looking forward to seeing the broadcast with a certain amount of trepidation,” he added.
Come Dine with Me will be shown on Channel 4 today (Friday) from 5pm.
