A COLOURFUL colony of toy brick penguins has landed in Evesham to provide some family fun and encourage retail spend in the run up to Christmas.

Sixteen adorable hand-built models are hiding out in shops, cafes, and community hubs across the town centre and The Valley, waiting to festive cheer to visitors and locals alike.

Families are encouraged to pick up a trail map from participating shops, find each bird and note their names.

Afterwards, a reward can be claimed at the Tourist Information Centre in Merstow Green.

One of the participating business owners, Anna Wielgat of Reid’s Boutique said: “We’re thrilled to be part of the trail.

“It’s a fantastic idea to encourage people to visit local businesses while enjoying a festive quest.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone and share the Christmas spirit.”

The Valley has also added to the Ice-Aged theme is the installation of a life-sized woolly mammoth, made of 224,687 toy bricks and standing 3.5 metres tall.

Phil Maclean, chair of Evesham Place Board and retail director at The Valley said: “The penguin trail is a wonderful way to bring our community together and showcase everything Evesham has to offer during the festive season. We can’t wait to see families and visitors join in the fun!”

The project is a partnership between The Valley,  Evesham Place Board and Wychavon and funded from The Valley and Wychavon’s share of the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which supports local regeneration and community engagement.

It comes on the back of last year’s successful nutcracker trail that saw twenty uniquely-themed nutcracker models placed about the town centre in 2024 and credited with increasing festive footfall amongst retailers.

Each penguin has its own unique character and will be visiting town until January 5.
