College principal honoured with OBE

AN EVESHAM-based college principal is among a host of people from across the UK being honoured in the New Year Honours list.

Mardy Smith, principal of New College for the blind in Worcester, has been honoured for her services to education with an OBE.

Among her many successes, Mrs Smith was at the helm in 2007 Mrs Smith when the college became independent after more than 70 years being run by the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

New College is a national residential school and college for young people aged 11 to 19 who are blind or partially sighted.
