A KIND-HEARTED member of The Vale Golf and Country Club has helped raise more than £5,000 for charity.

The club’s seniors captain Rob Sharp chose the Evesham Pershore & District Mencap (EP&DM) as his charity of 2015, and has since raised £5,500 together with the help of all the senior members.

A cheque was presented to the committee of EP&DM – who support people with learning disabilities – on Monday (January 11) at the club, and the money will go towards purchasing a much needed mini bus to replace the existing one, which is no longer fit for purpose.

The members raised the impressive amount through fund-raising events, including open competitions, a 60s/70s dance evening, collections at Marks & Spencer and a walk over the Malvern Hills.

The trustees of EP&DM have said they are very grateful to Mr Sharp, the Vale seniors and general manager Simon Williams, for their support.

The charity will match the money raised to purchase the mini bus for Abby House residents, helping to transport them to medical appointments, leisure activities and from house to house.
